New paper in Nature: Global Ocean Virome

Publication

By studying the global ocean virome, an international team led by Matthew Sullivan from Ohio State University, USA and including DOME group leader Alexander Loy now triples the known types of viruses in world's oceans. The identified virus populations contained an unexpected diversity of microbial metabolism genes in their genomes, which suggests that viruses impact global nutrient cycling by manipulating defined metabolic pathways of microbial key players in the ocean's carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles.
